Historic Fresno: Holy Trinity

The Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church (Western Prelacy) was originally built in 1900 and was the first Armenian Apostolic Church in California. But due to a fire, the building was destroyed in 1913. In 1914 another church was built to replace the original Holy Trinity, and is still in use today. This time around the church was built in the tradition of Armenian church architecture (first in the United States). It was also the first church designed by an Armenian architect, Lawrence Karekin Cone (Condrajian). Of the many unique characteristics of an Armenian Church, the most significant is the dome, which is traditional in all churches in Armenia dating back to the fourth century AD. The church is currently listed under the National Register of Historic Places.
