The Armenian Cilicia Congregational Church, as it was originally known, was the first Armenian church in Pasadena. It was officially recognized in 1922 by the American Congregational board and its members would meet in rented halls for service. The "Cilicia" portion of the church's name reflected the fact that majority of its members were from the Armenian rich, historical kingdom of Cilicia, in modern day Turkey. In 1937 the church completed construction of a sanctuary on the corner of El Molino Ave. and Mountain St. and would continue to hold services there for many years to come.

The years after WWII the church went through a period of gradual decline in membership, until eventually selling their church building in 1974. After the sale the church continued to hold services in other community churches, until its membership began rising over the years and constituted the need for a new sanctuary again. In 1991 the congregation purchased the building at its current location in a residential neighborhood on Santa Anita Ave., on the border of Pasadena and San Marino.
