Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Apostolic Church (Prelacy) was established as a direct result of the political strife amongst the Armenian Church community of America in 1933. With the separation of the church into two entities, a number of parishioners in the Providence area were disassociated from the one and only Armenian Apostolic church (St. Sahag and St. Mesrob Church) in town. After many years of searching, the group finally purchased an Episcopal Church building in 1940. Since then the church has gone through dozens of renovations, inside and out, to make it resemble more of an Armenian church.
Attached to the church is the Reverend Doctor Mesrob Tashjian Educational Center which houses numerous programs including Saturday Armenian classes, Sunday school, Bible study, and other educational activities.
